We hire our our spaces (meeting room, hall, theatre, the pub itself) for different activities from meetings to parties, events and classes. We’re located in North Walsham town centre with our own free parking (limited numbers) and Bank Loke car park just next door.
We are very proud of our spaces – from the theatre (in a separate building opposite the pub) to our lovely pub itself. The place has been tastefully decorated throughout (by volunteers we may add) and we have plans to refurbish our theatre much more to make it even more user-friendly and multi-use for different groups and needs. We’ve got some information here but you are best to get in touch or pop in and have a chat and a look for yourself!
The theatre
The Black Swan Theatre is an adaptable space. All the chairs and furniture can be moved around to create an open space for classes or a meeting or for an event or party.
Theatre style: seats 90 (in rows)
Cabaret style: seats 60 (around tables)
Our theatre is in a separate building, next to the pub. This means you and your participants don’t even need to go in the pub to access your activity or event (even though our pub is lovely with a welcoming atmosphere for all).
The hire rates depend on the type of event or activity you are running. We have hourly rates if hire and some sessional and day rates.
We have different sets of tariffs:
• community groups and local causes
• corporate hires (meetings and events)
• parties and events
• theatre shows are usually on a box office split deal rather than set hire, so you become part of our What’s On listings.
Pop into the pub or contact us with your enquiry and we will send you or complete a Venue Hire form with you.
Please ask us about our current venue hire rates. We have different rates for charities and community groups, regular classes, corporate and commercial use and parties. We also have set fees for evenings after 7pm.
Technical assistance and opening the bar will be quoted depending on the requirements.
Discretionary rates may be applied – we want to support classes and community activity – we’ll do our best to accommodate you!
Catering and buffets
We can cater for all different types and needs from party buffets, children’s parties, set menus and hot buffet options.
Parties
Our venue in the town centre, is easily accessible and is very adaptable from formal events to parties (children’s birthdays and all ages) to wedding receptions, anniversary parties… the lot!
Our theatre is a great space for a party!
• Capacity for up to 100 people
• Party/disco or seated around tables
• Exclusive bar and toilets
• Food, buffet, nibbles or specific refreshments can be prepared.
• Full technical support can be provided with lighting, sound and projection.
• We can decorate the venue for you.
Your party or event with us will help us grow as a not-for-profit community venture!
In the pub
Our lovely pub can also host your event. We have a space at the back of the pub suitable for smaller gatherings, meetings and drinks and nibbles etc.
There is also the opportunity to have the whole pub to yourself (if you didn’t want the theatre to yourself) on the days or nights we are usually closed.

How is the project funded?
Scenechange is our big project for 2023 and into 2024 – we want to renovate our theatre space (now called the Black Swan Theatre) which will make it all look and feel better, but most importantly be more usable for the community and fit for purpose.
This project is part-funded by the UK Government through the Rural England Prosperity Fund. The Rural Fund supports the aims of the government’s Levelling Up White Paper and Future Farming Programme. It funds capital projects for small businesses and community infrastructure. This will help to improve productivity and strengthen the rural economy and rural communities.
